The client was arrested on cocaine smuggling charges at Miami International Airport.
Thereafter, several DEA and HSI agents searched his apartment and not only found more drugs,
but also dozens of high-powered assault weapons. From the start, our firm aggressively defended
the client and was successful in ensuring that he would not be charged with offenses involving
the guns or the additional drugs. Ultimately, a favorable plea agreement was negotiable that
called for a guideline sentence of 30 months. However, at sentencing, we argued that the client
should receive an even lower sentence based on several factors and argued before the Honorable
United States District Court Judge Joan Lenard. Our request for a variance was granted.
Ultimately, the client was sentenced to twenty-four months imprisonment and was permitted to
remain released on bond. We are expecting a further sentence reduction.
